That fits - it looked suitably down market, poverty stricken and stuck in the 80's

I did see a Souh Yorks PTE bus stop later in the episode as well.

This is England '86 by raveydavey

Just watching last nights first episode and I have already spotted a vintage Yorkshire Rider Leyland Olympian and current Metro bus stops. I've not recognised any locations though.

I think it's meant to be set in Grimsby but perhaps some of it was filmed round here? The original film was filmed in Nottingham I think.

Anyone have any ideas?

The neverending creep of Tesco by raveydavey

It was interesting to read in tonights YEP that Tesco, having apparently failed to get planning permission for a store in Middleton now intend to open a huge "eco-store" in Beeston.

It isn't immediately clear what an "eco-store" is, but a cynic might imagine it's little more than marketing spin to tick one of the boxes that are required with todays planning applications.

Some readers may recall that when Morrisons bought Safeway some years ago, the competition authorities decided that Morrions would have too many stores in Leeds and some would have to be sold off. Yet the former Morrions / Safeways stores at Bramley, Garforth and in the city centre have all subsequently re-opened as Tesco - clearly no such limitations apply to Tesco.

In fact using Tesco's own website there are already 20 Tesco stores within 7 miles of City Square in Leeds - and that is before the planned stores in Leeds Station, on St Pauls Street and now Beeston are opened.

The question has to be, how many branches of Tesco does one city need? And how many branches can be permitted before they swamp the market and skew the competition?

Whilst I have nothing personally against Tesco, you can't help wonder why one supermarket chain were told they couldn't have significantly fewer stores in the city when another appears able to open as many stores as they like.

The Many Drips at Kirkstall Leisure Centre by BLAKEY

It must have been exceptionally heavy rain for a few minutes at that time yesterday. I was walking along the main aisle inside Morrisons in Yeadon and felt a cold "splosh" on my head - looking up I found a young girl behind me doing the same. we had a chuckle as she thought she was "losing it" and I thought I was - well I suppose I AM, but the girl was about seventeen LOL LOL

I wonder if that was the result of the very heavy spell of rain that suddenly came over where I am in North Leeds at about 17:30 and lasted for around 10 minutes or so before passing away. Quite impressive for a while and also odd as it was still pouring down even when the rain bearing clouds were going and the Sun was coming out! There was a nice but brief rainbow.

QUEENS HALL by gbdlufc

A few memories from the Queens Hall.
I remember seeing Motorhead there, I think with Girls school backing them. Lemmy playing his guitar in the nose of the mock up 'bomber' going up and down - I couldn't hear for a week.
It also had a little skateboard park in there sometime in the 70's. If I remember you had to climb a small staircase onto a gantry where you were faced with a half pipe about 6' across and built on an incline, at the the end was a very steep wall where you had to do a 180 turn, come back down and into a huge pipe about 12' in diameter, meanwhile whilst doing your run you had to it as many sensors/pads on the floor to score points or make a board light up?
Inline skating (speedwheeling) was introduced there in about 76 by I think a Australian guy, I do have a Evening Post picture of me and a mate (RIP) stood next to the guy (but I don't know how to post images here)?
My last memory was buying my first car there, it was a car auction room every Sunday or other Sunday? NVY 607P mini 850, I took the dealer back to my house and paid him £250 in 2's and 1's out of my giant whiskey bottle coppers collection

The Many Drips at Kirkstall Leisure Centre by Crazy Jane

Went up for a swim earlier and it rained while i was in the pool, and there were leaks all over the ceiling dripping down into the pool, i think at least 4 or 5 different leaks that then ran down or along the slats and dripped from several points each, i was thinking i wouldn;t need to go back to the changing room to have a shower(!)

I rather like the place and it was sad to see it in that state, i have a feeling maybe i've seen the odd leak now and again in the past, but guess it's got a lot worse while i wasn;t swimming regularly.

TV alert: BBC4 tonight (Sun 5th) by Crazy Jane

"As a child of the 70,s i expected in 2010 to be visiting Venus and zooming through the air with a nuclear jet pack strapped to my back"

I feel your pain. And i'm still trying to work out how Space 1999 all happened 11 years ago.
