Yes you're right. I remember my dad buying these penny loaves for me and my sister from a baker's in cross arcade in town- They might have been hovis if not turog.

there's a couple of painted identical ones on the back of the shops on brudnell road in hyde park near the house me and jf lived in for some years - one of the letting agents has been kind enough to put a small to let sign right in the middle of one - I'll try and remember to snap them on the way home tonight.

That "Belt up" sign is not that old actually. Was painted on there back in the early 80's when a belt manufacturer set up shop in that complex!

Who hoa!! I've just got a comment added to my Flickr 'old Leeds' set from the prettiest American girl called Csillia. If that doesn't get the L.G.E.S an invite to the Leeds heritage bash @ the civic then i don't know what will.. I can just imagine it now... My new lady admirer Csillla been invited over to unveil my new bust on the stairs of the Civic to cement anglo American relations.. i can dream on... :-)

Is this the one just up the road from Beeston cross flats park? There's a Decorators one up there i spied on the bus the other day..

There's a really old sign for "Bile Beans" in Hunslet, up from the Bingo toward the motorway underpass to Belle Isle.

It's look like it might two signs, one showing through the other now that they are wearing out. Does one of the say HOVIS ?

Maybe , and perhaps the other says 'TUROG'?? certainly looks like that and it would make sense if it was a Baker's shop

I can make out the word ' engineers' near the Air-brick and at the bottom '...dguards' is presumably 'mudguards' then there,s the start of 'radiators' so presumably some old-time motor traders/repairers
