It's doing my posture a world of good walking around looking at walls above shops and gable ends! It's surprising how many you see when you look hard enough. I've seen plenty of faded or painted out rectangles where signs once were but nothing discernable remains.

It's good to get looking... Early morning wk ends are best. I HATE town with people in it. It's suprising how much you see when you lift up your head & stop rushing about..... We look at other city's but never our own...

I think the sign you're thinking of Phill says ' Bay Horse - Molineux Ales' - I'll get a picture of it next time Im in town myself. The Bull and Mouth was further down Briggate , and disappeared a long time ago I believe (100 years plus) -

The fabled Turog bread. Hovis's main rival for many years and produced on a similar 'licensed' basis by small bakeries.

A wonderful Mosaic sign - I think the building it is attached to used to be a 'Huntley and Palmer's' depot and this is their old badge - but I stand to be corrected

Ha Tabby. The multiple post has happened to me several times. It makes you feel a dipstick doesn't it? Don't worry...I think what happens is the comment seems to take an age to upload sometimes....so as is always the case we get a bit impatient & say 'COME ON' & bash the upload key a few times. hence the multiple post...(That was the case for mine anyway)

Spotted on Easy Road (Cross Green/EEP) on the corner of May Terrace during my reconnaissance of the Waterloo Colliery Railway earlier today.

I've spotted two more on my travels today but not taken pictures as I was driving. One on Meanwood Road on the southern end of the row of shops after the Junction with Cambridge Road (on the front of the shop) and another on the Hyde Park corner end of Victoria Road. I didn't get a good look, they were pretty faded. You may already have them.

I'm trying to work out what the figure is at the bottom of the Easy Road sign - it looks like a cartoon dog.

I'll post a bit in the appropriate thread about my walkabout in Cross Green this morning.

If you look closely it looks like a cartoon dog with a shoe in its mouth.

The Yorkshire Evening News was the Yorkshire Evening Post's rival for many years (both printed in Leeds)- and I suppose its no coincidence that this sign was adjacent to the cricket/rugby grounds where there would be plenty of customers, and sellers walking round the grounds on match days. The Evening News closed c 1963 I believe.

Further to above - it looks like the difficult to read message at the bottom is "Best for sport"

Are these mosaics on what used to be the Turner Virr factory on York Road, opposite the White Horse pub? They look very familiar.
